There is an interesting story here, a myth about a Dutch boat that was transported over land in the theory of crossing the continent and returning to the point of disembarkation (it was a regular thing among the Spanish, French and Dutches). It believed that what these Dutches were trying to do was look for a river system to take them cross the continent. When they got to Lake Gregory Lake Gregory is massive so you could see why they were wrong. When they realized it was a lake they moved on and as there was no water system (rivers) the boat was abounded.. they thought they found that system.
Whether they got to Alice Spring is debatable. Those days the Aboriginal men tied their beards like the Dutches sailors. So the question arises whether this is a myth or it actually happened.
Either way the boat is suppose to be sitting out under the sand of the Tanami Desert, not far from Balgo. The old Aboriginal are telling this story that was passed down to them by their grand parents through a conversation
