    Dear Haim Oron,

We all  know about the unquestioning support among Israelis, of our recent little war.  The almost universal comment is that eternal slogan "ein lanu brera..."

What is troubling me much more is the total absence of any debate as to our options for a more cordial future.  It appears to be unquestionably accepted that we simply have no alternative, and have to get used to living with this dismal reality. I think we should make it perfectly clear to our people that there is an inherent contradiction between our crazy settlement enterprise, and the future of Israel as a Jewish AND Democratic state.

I think that we at MERETZ should be much more outspoken in our support for ending the occupation, and for an International Peace Conference with the present Arab League Initiative (perhaps in combination with the Geneva Accord), as point of reference.

Best wishes to all of us!
    Zeev, Haifa
