| Last summer I happened to be in Tokyo; I was lucky enough to be there the same time Simon & Garfunkel were introducing their reunion concert to the Japanese people . Usually these big concerts shown at Tokyo Dome, one of the biggest stadiums you have ever seen (55,000 seats). But this time it was in a "smaller" place....still twice the size of Yad Eliyahu…
I was there together with 20,000 middle aged Japanese. I was surprised there were there only few people in their 30’s; it was mostly people in their 40’s – 50’s. I was hoping, that Simon & Garfunkel like Pink Floyd, Rolling Stones and others will last forever…but who knows, maybe the Japanese case is different than other places around the world. Anyway, if you haven’t been in a concert with 20,000 Japanese people, you can imagine how a concert with the philharmonic feels like. The concert was a great experience. If you get a chance to see them, don’t miss that, like Leonard Cohen they, unfortunately for music lovers, will pass away. So you better catch them before they do their “exit”. You can follow up in their official website. I don’t think they have any plans to come to TLV in the near future, but I know they have a few concerts still in the US. 2010 plan is not yet clear….http://www.simonandgarfunkel.com/ On the other hand, my son, who is 8 now, came home from school few weeks back and asked me if I knew who sings the song called April. So I guess there is still hope young generation appreciates good old music.
