| Why is it that when fat people sweat they look Yuk, and when skinny people sweat they look sporty? Have you ever noticed that? Those girls at the gym who walk around looking fantastic as they step off the runner with a single drop of sweat trickling down their brow. When I go to the gym I usually wear an old pair of track suite pants and a t-shirt…I sweat profusely, get red, wisps of curls stick out of the combs holding my hair back and I don’t look good! But in the words of my friend (who thankfully, I think…) dragged me to the gym for the first time only weeks ago and said ‘fuck everyone, you’re there for you!’And so the question must be asked, am I there for me? I mean REALLY, am I there for me..? I’m not sure. I would be lying if I didn’t tell you that in my utopian world, people were overweight and healthy and happy and attractive to other people in exactly that state. But we don’t live in a utopia. We live here, in this world – the one that says that a healthy body is a slim one, and more importantly – a beautiful body is a slim one. I don’t agree and I don’t like it, and yet, here I am dieting (sorry – ‘changing my eating habits’) and exercising like my life’s happiness depends on it. I was born in the wrong era. I should have been an 18th century baby, and grow up to be an 18th century woman – large ass, big bust and called beautifully voluptuous But alas, I was born in 1976 and I am a 21st century woman. So for now, I will keep doing what I’m doing, because my cloths are looser and the compliments are coming in…and that feels good too. Not as good as good pasta…..but its getting close. |
