אמנות ואקטיביזם / Martin Krenn

מרטין קרן - אמן, אוצר, אקטיביסט ומרצה. מכהן כנשיא איגוד האמנים האוסטרי.

בשנת 1999, עם עלייתו של הימין הקיצוני, בראשות יורג היידר לשלטון באוסטריה, התארגנו אנשי רוח רבים בקרב השמאל באוסטריה לפעולות התנגדות ומחאה. מספר אמנים ופעילי תרבות בעלי אוריינטציה חברתית-פוליטית לקחו על עצמם את הניהול המחודש של איגוד האמנים האוסטרי.

הרצאתו של מרטין קרן עוסקת בפרקטיקות חברתיות רדיקליות באמנות. הספקטרום נע בין התארגנויות קולקטיביות, פרויקטים חברתיים משותפים, לבין פעולות פוליטיות והתערבויות פרובוקטיביות וסימבוליות. הטכניקות החתרניות ובדיקת גבולות חופש האמנות נעשות בעיקר מתוך חשיבה אסטרטגית.

בהרצאתו, ייעזר קרן בדוגמאות מפרויקטים שלו, כאמן וכאוצר, בפרויקטים שעשה כמרצה בשיתוף עם סטודנטים וכפרקטיקות של איגוד האמנים האוסטרי המנסח תביעות פוליטיות בשיתוף עם ארגונים חברתיים נוספים.

Martin Krenn , born 1970 in Vienna, studied electronic music and applied

art at the University of Vienna, where today he is a lecturer (at the

University of Applied Arts). Since 2006 he is the president of Austrian

Artists Association - IG Bildende Kunst. In his artistic work, Martin

Krenn explores and probes socio-political subjects, focusing on

strategies and methods of resistance to the governing relations of

power. In this, he makes use of different media, mainly photography,

video and internet and realizes his projects in the form of expositions

(moving from the position of artist-participant, to that of curator),

web, and interventions in public space.

Lecture:

Art & Activism

 

Radical social practices and interventions in art question social

normality. The spectrum ranges from co-operative, socially committed and

participatory projects through to politically symbolic, provocative

actions. An extended concept of art, subversive techniques and testing

the so-called 'freedom of art' are deployed here mostly strategically.

Martin Krenns lecture will discuss issues related to radical social

practices in art. He will also show examples of his own projects, that

he realized as both as an artist and curator as well as an teacher with

students at Art University. He also will give insights in the practice

of the Artist Association of Austria in which political claims are

formulated together with other activist groups on the basis of strategic

alliances.

 

About IG:

With the formation of IG BILDENDE KUNST in 1956 freelance artists in

Austria created a lobby to represent their interests - both concerning

matters pertaining to legislation affecting them, as well as to create

more awareness in the eyes of the general public as to the rights of

artists and their situation in today's society. Currently there are

about 1000 members.

IG BILDENDE KUNST is based in Vienna (capital city of Austria), managed

by a team of active artists, runs its own gallery space, publishes the

periodical Bildpunkt four times a year and offers artists advice on

questions ranging from insurance to tax and legal counsel.
